Growing up in Northwestern Wisconsin Ben participated in 4 high school sports (football, basketball, baseball, and golf), lettering 14 times and being recognized as an All-Conference athlete 4 times.  He played recreationally through college and soon after finishing his undergrad degree was offered the Head Baseball and Head Boys Basketball Coaching positions at his high school alma mater (Frederic High School).   After five years of coaching at the high school level Ben moved to Phoenix where he earned Master's Degrees in Sport and Exercise Psychology and Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University.  As part of his degree Ben completed a practicum with the Mesa Community College Women’s Basketball team where he was later offered an Assistant Coaching Position. Ben has been coaching at Mesa since 2009.  In his role he focuses on Leadership Development, Goal Setting, Team Building/Team Dynamics, and Mental Skills Training.  As one of the top junior college women's basketball programs nationally Ben has been a part of multiple national tournament teams including a runner up National finish in 2013, National Championship in 2014, 4th place finish in 2018, and a 3rd place finish in 2024.  In addition to coaching Ben teaches Sport Psychology and Counseling classes in the Maricopa Community College district as well as at Grand Canyon University and is Counseling Faculty for the Maricopa Community Colleges.
