Maureen Smith

COO, Minnesota United FC

Local Board Member, Minnesota

Maureen is currently COO at Minnesota United FC. She began her career as a CPA in public accounting and small business consulting. Prior to joining MNUFC, Maureen served as Director of Operations at UnitedHealth Group in the Office of Social Responsibility and the United Health Foundation supporting and reporting on the enterprise-wide charitable activity.  Additionally, since 2005, Maureen has served as Executive Director for WESAC Sports, Inc. a non-profit sports council partnering with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board to provide low cost recreational opportunities for youth athletes.

In September 2016, Maureen joined Minnesota United FC to help launch Major League Soccer in Minnesota.  Being a part of the leadership team during MNUFC's 2017 inaugural season, the project to build a privately-funded stadium in the Midway neighborhood of St. Paul and establishing the foundation for a new sports franchise has been her most challenging and rewarding professional endeavor to date.

Maureen and husband Sam have 5 children, ages 11-22, who have benefitted from competitive and recreational athletics in just about every sport offered in the Twin Cities. They believe in trusting in the process of participation and encouraging perseverance for the development of character.  Their family motto is "Have fun, play hard, be smart".
