Portland Public Schools and the Portland Interscholastic League have struck a partnership with Positive Coaching Alliance-Portland that will impact all of the 11,000-plus PPS-PIL student-athletes. Central to the agreement is a series of live, group workshops in separate tracks for coaches, parents and athletes, all directed at creating a high school sports environment where the norms are:.
Over the next year, we will train more than 1000 coaches, along with student-athletes and parents,
Said Benjamin Dudley, PCA-Portland Chapter Executive Director. “Our workshops deliver insights from the world-class sports- and educational psychologists, plus top pro and college coaches who serve on our National Advisory Board. A certified PCA Trainer leads the workshop, using videos and interactive exercises, such as role-playing, and all the workshop participants receive books by PCA Founder Jim Thompson and follow-up e-mail series that reinforce and add to the practical tips and tools we share in the workshops.”
PCA-Portland already has presented its workshop titled "Leading Your Organization: Developing a Positive Coaching Culture" to the nine PPS high school athletic directors and the workshop titled “Double-Goal Coach®: Coaching for Winning and Life Lessons” to 500 coaches for the spring sports season.
“We have worked with PCA-Portland toward this partnership since the organization launched here in August,” said Marshall Haskins, District Athletic Director for Portland Public Schools. "We are excited about the collaboration and the opportunity to have a large impact on Portland Public School athletes, staff and community."
